PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES FUTURE CAREER PROSPECTS
  • To acquaint students with the past and present of Indian ethos and reality through teaching and research in history.
  • To provide students with critical understanding of Indian society, economy, polity and culture through a historical perspective
  • To prepare students for a range of careers by teaching them courses which will impart them with a set of transferable skills while studying history of India and the World as well as museology
  • To stimulate intellectual curiosity and research attitude in the students through the study and research of local, regional, national and global history.
  • It introduces the students to major concepts, ideas and events which created the modern world so that they will be able to place historical events in a larger context.
  • To acquaint the students with the various Indian and foreign traditions of history writing and the debates generated about the nature of history as a discipline.
  • To make the students acquainted with the Traditions, Historiography Concepts, Tools and Methods of Historical writing.
  • To develop analytical approach of the students to Indian and Western History in different periods by learning the approaches of historiographers established so far.
  • To make them aware of the recent trends in Indian History and Western History with regards political, economic and socio-cultural dimensions- in some cases with respect to women.
  • cademics and Education : Pursuing positions as a History Professor or college lecturer after clearing exams like UGC NET, or teaching at the secondary level with a B.Ed.
  • Civil Services and Government : Preparing for administrative roles through the UPSC or State PSC exams, or joining specialized government bodies like the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR).
  • Museums and Archives : Managing collections, cataloging artifacts, and designing exhibits as a Museum Curator or Archivist within national and state institutions.
  • Media, Publishing, and Content : Working as a historical researcher, documentary scriptwriter, or educational content developer for digital media platforms and publishing houses.

  • Defence Policy Researcher / Think Tank Analyst : Conducting strategic research on military modernization, nuclear proliferation, and foreign policy for premier institutions like the IDSA (Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses) or ORF (Observer Research Foundation).
