Laboratory Facilities

Six well equipped laboratories are available for batch-wise conduct of practicals in all 3 subjects. A special research laboratory is provided to research scholars. Besides these, 3 small specialized research laboratories and central instrument facilities are available.

 

Computer and Bioinformatics Laboratory

 

A modern computer laboratory, comprising of latest operating system and hardware with UPS supply, has started functioning for introducing M.Sc. students to computer/Internet applications and enhancing proficiency of research scholars for their use in data processing and literature surfing. It has also helped our senior research fellows to find out employment/post-doctoral opportunities.

 

Spectroscopy and Chromatography facility

 

The School is well equipped with nearly all categories of chromatography and spectroscopy systems for analysis and characterization of plant and microbial metabolites.

 

The School has 3 HPLC systems (2 analytical and 1 semi-preparative scale), Ion-exchange chromatography, 2 Gas Chromatography systems, High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography system etc. Besides, a recently installed LC-MS (Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry- Single Quadruple) is expected to further enhance the research capabilities of the School.

 

The School is also equipped with 06 Uv-Vis spectrophotometers, a Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (KBr and ATR options), a Microplate reader system, a Atomic Absorption Spectrometer, Fluorescence spectrophotometer etc.

 

Animal Tissue Culture Laboratory

 

To undertake animal tissue culture work the laboratory is equipped with CO2 incubator and other basic facilities

 

Fermentation Laboratory

 

The laboratory is equipped with 03 fermenters (3.3, 10 and 25 L capacity) with separate sterilization facility and accessory equipments to undertake microbial fermentation studies.

 

Algalogy Laboratory

 

 

A laboratory with all required facilities for maintenance and research on cyanobacterial and algal cultures.

 

Molecular Biology Laboratory

 

Equipped with PCR, DNA sequencer, Gel Documentation and other basic facilities.

 

Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory

 

The tissue culture facility includes separate inoculation room; weather controlled culture rooms, and a small green house. The culture room is fitted with a microclimatiser, for automatic temperature control, and photoperiodic time. An ozone generating system is used for disinfection of rooms
