Admission to Ph.D. Programmes is done on the basis of entrance test.

ELIGIBILITY ADMISSION PROCEDURE

General Criteria

  • A candidate is considered to be eligible for admission to the post graduate course if he/she has secured at least 50% (or equivalent CGPA) marks at graduation (45% marks for backward class i.e. SC/ST/DT/NT/OBC/SBC/SEBC category candidates from Maharashtra state).

Specific Criteria

  • B.Sc. Biochemistry. If seats remain vacant, candidates with B.Sc. (Microbiology/ Biotechnology/ Botany/Zoology/Chemistry with any group subject as subsidiary) will be considered for admission on equal basis.
Online Centralized Admission Procedure (CAP) for admission to this course is carried out by the university in the month of June.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES FUTURE CAREER PROSPECTS
  • To develop understanding of the fundamental concepts, principles and processes underlying the various aspects of living organisms.
  • To understand the concepts of molecular biology, immunology, metabolism, microbiology, plant tissue culture and enzymes, fermentation & recombinant DNA technology and their applications in industry.
  • To undertake hands on lab work and practical activities which develop problem solving abilities required for successful career in academics/higher studies or in pharmaceutical, agriculture, chemical, food processing and cosmetic industries/sectors.
  • To Recognize and appreciate the importance of the biochemistry and its applications in academic, social, environmental, economic and commercial context.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES FUTURE CAREER PROSPECTS
  • The objective of the Master’s Programme in Biotechnology is to equip the students to apply knowledge of molecular mechanisms of cellular processes in living systems including microbes, plants, and higher order organisms to applied aspects.
  • The laboratory training in addition to theory is included to prepare them for careers in the industry, agriculture, and applied research where biological system is increasingly employed. Basics and current updates in the areas of Industrial Microbiology, Fermentation Technology, Agriculture & Environmental Microbiology are included to train the students and also sensitize them to scope for research.
  • The Masters in Biotechnology Programme will address the increasing need for skilled scientific manpower with an understanding of research ethics involving animals and humans to contribute to application, advancement, and impartment of knowledge in the field of biotechnology globally.
