On 3rd and 4th March 2017. Women’s Studies Centre Organizes two days Workshop on “Masculinity” in Boys Hostel North Maharashtra University. President of MAVA Mr. Harish Sadani and Amol Kale was delivered a lecture on “Masculinity”.

Maharashtra State Women’s Commission and Women’s Studies Centre Collaboratively organized a one day Workshop on “Sexual Harassment at Work Place, Act 2013” in Senate Hall on 1th February 2017. All North Maharashtra University affiliated colleges and there ICC members were invited for this particular workshop. Secretary of Women’s Commission Mrs. Manjusha Malvankar, Devyaani Thakre and Project Officer Mr. Laxman Mankar and Resource Person Mr. Vishal Kediya were present for the workshop. Honorable Vice Chancellor Mr. P. P. Patil inaugurated the Workshop, and Dr. Shobha Shinde was Convener of this workshop.

International Women’s Day, 8th March 2016 was celebrated by the Women’s Studies Centre in a unique way :

Mahila Melava was organised on 8th March 2016 by the Women’s Studies Centre in collaboration with the Dept. of Social Work at Savda village, some eight kms from the university. More than hundred village women participated in the Mahila Melava organised by the local sarpanch Geeta Badgujar. Dr. Madhuri Kasat, Dr.Sheetal Patil addressed the gathering on issues of women’s health, hygiene, nutrition and precautions against cancer. The Head of Dept, Women’s Studies Centre Dr. Shobha Shinde talked about women’s consciousness and awareness as well as confidence building.
An exhibition of the products made by the Women’s Self-Help Groups was organised as well as a poster and rangoli exhibition. The children of the local school dressed up as eminent women leaders and presented group songs on the occasion.
Savda is one of the five villages chosen by North Maharashtra University as Smart Village

Special programmes were organised in the Babu Jajjivanram Ladies Hostel and Minority Girls Hostel on 10th and 11th March 2016. On 10th March 2016, Dr. Tilottama Gajare was invited to give a talk on “Women’s Health and Hygiene”, followed by questions and answers and a lively discussion. Prof. Jyotsna Meshram presided over the function.
On 11th March Mr. Girish Kulkarni of Asha Foundation addressed the girl students on “Preparation for Competitive Examinations” and also on “Personality Development” Prof. Shobha Shinde presided over the function.

On 12th March 2016, a Mahila Melava was organised at Kandari village, 14 kms from Jalgaon Dr. Vijayeta Singh addressed the women about legal rights and issues. Girish Kulkarni spoke to the young aspiring girls of the village on how to face the challenges of life. The poster exhibition and a street play organised by the students and staff of Women’s Studies Centre was very well received. More than 75 women and adolescent girls participated in this Mahila Melava to bring about consciousness and awareness about “Beti Bachao; Beti Padhao”.

On 5th January 2016 a special function was organised to commemorate Savitribai Phule Jayanti by inviting the famous poet Dr. Pratibha Ahire from Aurangabad. Dr. Shobha Shinde presided over the function.

On 9th March, 2013, Ms. Vandana Khare (Mumbai) and Mukta Khare conducted a one –day workshop titled “Breaking Silences.” Twenty eight girl students participated in the workshop and discussed issues of gender, sexuality, bi-sexuality, marriage etc.

In the morning session Prof. Chhaya Datar and Dr. Shobha Shinde addressed the faculty and students of Arts, Science and Commerce College, Erandol., under the auspices of Yuvati Sabha.

On the occasion of International Women’s day, 8th March, 2013, Prof. Chhaya Datar (TISS Mumbai) delivered a talk on “Violence against Women: Safety and Law” at Women’s Studies Centre, North Maharashtra University. An audio visual CD of the world famous “One Billion Rising” was screened at the time.

Women Study Center has compiled “An annotated bibliography of Marathi books on Feminism” with the objective of the future ever growing need of Marathi references book on feminism. At present the library of the Women’s Studies Centre comprises of rare and precious 270 books, 22 journals, 33 magazines and study material.

Our center organized two days workshop on “Pre-marriage Counseling” on 17th and 18th Jan, 2012 with a special focus on issues related to health and sexual problems of adolescents. A slide show of Marathi Vigyan Parishad was shown separately for boys and girls in two sessions. A panel of doctors was invited for an open discussion.

Our Center had organized two days National level Conference on “Marathitil Striynanche Sahitya-Prerana-Chikitsa ani Navya Disha” on 5th and 6th January 2012. We covered following topics in four sessions:-

2. Feminism in India
3. International Feminism
4. The challenges and scope for women’s literature

On 28th and 29th August, 2011, our Director Dr. Shobha Shinde participated in a two days Women Studies Center National Workshop at Central University of Hyderabad organized by UGC, to discuss about the scope, the work and the problems of the Women’s Studies Centers from all over India.

Our Center has started a three months Certificate Course on Gender Sensitization for graduate and post graduate students with the help of subject experts, intellectuals and activists. The three month’s Certificate Course in “Gender Sensitization” is run for the in campus students in evening hours two days a week and will help to imbibe the gender perspective in our lives.
