About School

The School offers the M. Sc. (Physics with Materials Science specialization), M. Sc. (Physics with Energy Studies specialization), M. Sc. (Electronics), M. Tech. (VLSI Technology) and Ph. D.(Physics/Electronics) degree programmes both in Faculty of Science and Engineering.

M. Sc. program commences from the 1st July every year and is of two year’s duration divided into 14 theory and 6 experimental/laboratories. For M.Sc. Physics program the core-content of the syllabi of both the specialization is common in the first year. In second year more emphasis is on imparting advanced knowledge to the students through six theory papers and two special laboratories of respective specialization. Each student has to carry out an innovative and research level project during last two semesters. The M. Sc. program in Electronics is offered only by this School in the jurisdiction of Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashatra University. In this program more emphasis is given on Microprocessor based instrumentation, optoelectronic device design and fabrication, VLSI design and development of CAD Tools.

A student pursuing a post graduate course in the School has to complete 84 credits. and has to take both core courses and specialization courses spread over four semesters and practical courses in the first two semesters. During the final two semesters, students also have to carry out a research project on a specific topic under the supervision of a faculty member in a laboratory and submit a dissertation for evaluation by oral presentation defending the project.

Students are assessed and evaluated throughout the semester by a continuous system of tests, seminars, home assignments and Semester-end examinations with a weightage in the ratio of 25:75. The School follows CGPA system for grading the PG students under Academic Flexibility.

The admissions in M.Tech. are given on the basis of either the GATE score or score obtained in the local test. The syllabus and curriculum is as per norms decided by the Faculty of Engineering. The first two semesters are the compulsory theory and practical courses with one mini project. The second year is dedicated to the full time industrial/research project. The more emphasis is given on the live problems of industries and latest research.

A student seeking admission for the Ph.D. degree has to qualify the Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET) conducted by the University. The eligible and PET qualified students will be provisionally registered for the Ph.D. degree. All provisionally registered students have to undertake pre-Ph. D. courses for the initial two semesters. For subsequent registration to the Ph.D. programme, the student has to complete successfully the Pre-Ph.D. theory course work. In consultation with the Ph.D. guide, student has to submit a outline of the research proposal and defend it in an open seminar before Research and Recognition Committee (RRC) of the University. Based on the topic of the research and performance of the student, the RRC of the University approves the outline of the research and enrollment of the student to the Ph. D. program. After sufficient amount of the research work carried out by the student and with due approval by the Ph.D. guide, the submission of synopsis may be permitted only after completion of 24 months from the date of registration and after publishing at least one research paper in referred/reputed journal. The Ph.D. degree is awarded on the basis of evaluation and recommendation of the thesis by two external examiners respectively from within the country followed by successful Viva-Voce of the research work by the candidate.
