For M. Sc. :
a. Eligibility :
As per eligibility conditions, B.Sc. students are eligible to apply for the admission to M. Sc. in Microbiology, Biochemistry & Biotechnology. through one single application form.
* For the reserved category (SC/ST/DT/NT) candidates, the minimum marks limit is 45 %.
b. Criteria :
Selection is based entirely on candidate's percentage of marks obtained at the graduation, preferences given by the candidate and availability of the seats.
c. Procedure :
For admission to all the three M.Sc. programs, an advertisement is published in some leading newspapers in the month of May / Jun
every year. The prescribed application forms are available on the on the website. The application procedure is centralized for all Post Graduate courses run on University campus. Application needs to be filled online and hardcopies to be submitted at Office of School of Life Science. The admission procedure is quite transparent. Information brochure, provisional and final merit lists, schedule of spot admission, list of final allotments, etc. will be displayed at University website as per schedule.
d. The School follows CGPA system for grading the PG students under Academic Flexibility. The details of which can be downloaded from here.
The School has adopted 60:40 pattern from the academic year 2013 – 2014 (for M. Sc. 1st Year). Under this pattern the internal examination will be for 40 marks and of descriptive/subjective type, while the external examination will be of 60 marks and objective (MCQ) type (2 hours duration). There will be separate head of passing for internal and external examination.
For internal examination, two tests of 20 marks each are to be conducted. First test will be conducted during 15 to 30 September and second during 15 to 30 October, 2013. For external examination, each questionnaire will have 60 questions of 01 marks each for correct answer. There will be no negative marking.
For practical courses, there will be only one internal examination of 40 marks and one external examination for 60 marks.
For Ph. D. Program :
Good academic record at graduation and post-graduation level.
The admission to Ph.D. program is open throughout the academic year. It can be joined directly after completion of the M.Sc. degree through the newly introduced Ph.D. entrance examination (PET) (details available here
) in accordance with the guidelines of UGC (July, 2009). After joining, a number of research scholarships are available to the student during his/her Ph.D. work through research project grants and/or university fund. All the Ph.D. scholars of the School have been successful in achieving career opportunities in academia, industry and research institutes in India and abroad while quite a few are biotechnology entrepreneurs.
