Research Profile

The availability of magnificent academic buildings, communication network, necessary collection in the library, modern laboratories, dedicated administrative staff and well qualified team of teachers does built a very strong base for meaningful research and overall development of students at North Maharashtra University.

The unique School System adopted by the North Maharashtra University has helped to develop team spirit in the faculty, which encourages students to undertake individual as well as joint research projects. The Schools/Departments of NMU have well developed research facilities, and have identified their thrust areas of research. Research Scholars are always encouraged to participate in National and International level workshops and conferences so as to develop courage for scientific interaction on public platform.

The post-graduate Schools/Departments offer research program leading to M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees. The teachers at NMU and their performance have brought number of prestigious honours to the University, thus enhancing NMU's image in the eyes of authorities from institutes of higher education inside/outside the country. The majority of teachers are operating research projects and guiding M.Phil and Ph.D. students. During the last five years, the teachers have published 150+ research papers, 91 in national and 59 in international journals. The State Government and foreign countries recognized the performance of some teachers, which resulted into awards and recognition like BOYSCAST, DAAD, UNESCO, Jan Tinbergen International Young Statistician Award, and Joulio Curie Memorial Lecture Award etc. received by some of the teachers of NMU.

The faculties recruited recently have 02 members having post-doctoral research experience. In all 115 students have been registered fro Ph.D. and 54 Ph.D. have been awarded during post-accreditation period in different Schools/Departments of the University. The publication out put in high impact factor journals with good citation record has been impressive and exceeds 500. The Schools/Departments have established vital linkages and credentials with industries through consultancy and transfer of technologies and generating revenue for the University. The healthy research ambience has been reflected in :-

  1. Sophisticated analytical instrumentation facility worth Rs. 4.0 crores.

  2. Sound pilot plant facility for pre-feasibility/commercial viability trials e.g. the School of Life Science is carrying viability trial for a multi-national pharma company.

  3. Organization of research conferences and seminars regularly.

  4. Increased project funding from different supporting agencies for promoting research facilities and work.

  5. Establishment of collaborations and linkages with as many as 13 National and International institutes/universities for promotion of research, publication of output and extension activities.

The University is equally active in promoting extension activities through the initiatives of Department of Adult & Continuing Education and Extension Services.

The evaluative assessment under research, consultancy and extension evaluation in terms of Ci Wi grade is 1050. The criteria score is 70 %. The previous assessment report made following positive observations about research, consultancy and extension aspects :

  1. Collaboration with National and International institutions.

  2. Development and transfer of technologies through University-Industrial linkages.

  3. Efforts to generate additional resources through consultancy and technology transfer.

  4. The majority of teachers are engaged in research projects and guiding Ph.D. students.

  5. Good research infrastructure.

  6. Participation of students, employees and teachers in SHRAMADAN for development and extension activities.

The University has taken action as follows:

  1. The faculty members have published more than 500 research papers in National/International journals in last five years as against 150 papers during previous NAAC assessment period. Besides these, the Schools/Departments have organized 26 National/International conferences and the faculty members have represented in 218 different conferences. Six patents have been published and 03 patents are filed. The funding through sanction of projects from agencies such as - AICTE, UGC, DST, DBT, CSIR, DRDO, ICAR etc. have been generated to the tune of Rs. 636.08 lacs as against Rs. 02.02 crores in previous NAAC assessment period.

  2. The faculty members have maintained momentum in generation of revenue through consultancy and technology transfer which is to the tune of Rs. 17.21 lacs.

  3. The faculty members have received as many as 20 awards and recognitions during post accreditation period.

  4. The total number of books published by the teachers has been 38 as against 05 during previous accreditation period.
