Recognizing the need of new-comer students, who will come for the first time
away from their parental care to the urban culture of University,
to
entertain unknown fears, suffering from inhibitions, some confusion
and a sense of bewilderment, their transition to University life
is made smooth through an orientation program on the first day of the term,
by teachers in each school/department. Program aims at following objectives :
Make students aware of campus traditions.
Warning students regarding stringent implications for indulging in ragging
which is forbidden by the state law.
Appraise the students of their objective in coming to the university.

Advice them to be punctual and sincere from the beginning.
Medical Facility
To keep students, resident and non-resident employees, and their families healthy, happy and joyful, a health center has been constructed in the campus. The primary duties of the health center are to provide instant medical cure to employees and students on the campus. The center is equipped with many advanced medical instruments like ECG machine, X-RAY machine, Nebulizer, Autoclave, medical refrigerator, Sphygmomanometer and important surgical instruments and other facilities required by an upto date health center. There are two patient wards (general and special), Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Operation theatre, consulting room, dressing room, dispensary room, pathological laboratory. Health center also owns an ambulance for shifting patients to other centers. The Health Center has started its functioning from 30thApril,
1998. Dr. S. G. Narkhede is the Head
Officer of the Center. To assist him there are two nurses, one compounder-cum clerk and one
ward boy appointed by the university.
Health Center provides following services at nominal charges.

- Pulse Polio Vaccination
- Triple Polio Vaccination
- Yearly Medical checkup for all school students of Central School
- Yearly Medical checkup for all hostelites
No of Patients Aided in last few years:
- In the academic year 2001-2002 near about 2770 patients.
- In the academic year 2000-2001 near about 2870 patients.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
- 100% target achieved in National Pulse Polio Program conducted during the year 1998-99 to 2001-02 at NMU, Campus.
- Conducted medical check up of all students of Girls and Boys Hostel every year.
- The Health Centre had provided necessary medical facilities to Cycle Rally organized by Sane Guruji Sanskar Kendra, Jalgaon from Amalner to Palghar (550 Kms.) in October, 1999.
- The Health Centre had provided necessary medical facilities to Motorcycle Rally organized by Gandhi Tatvadnyan Kendra, Dhule from Dhule to Anandvan (500 Kms.) in the year 2001.
FUTURE PLANNING
- Hon. services of Physicians, Surgeons,
Gynecologists, ENT Surgeons, Ophthalmologists, Dermatologists, Orthopedic Surgeons, Dentist will be made available once-in a
week. For this purpose following equipments will be installed in the health center soon.
- Sonography & Echo-Cardiography
- Dental Chair
- Computerized pathology lab
- Yearly medical check-up of employees above 45 years of age.
- Indoor and operative facilities will be available, if new post is created.
Central Library
Construction of Central Library building is progressing towards completion,
in the meanwhile library is operating from Administration Building. The teaching and research needs are adequately met imaginatively
through its dedicated staff. It has sufficient number of text books, reference books and encyclopedias
on a variety of subjects. Besides, it provides a spacious reading
room and centralized Xeroxing and printing facility to cater official
as well as students needs. NMU has a place of pride to be the first
University, recipient of INFLIBNET software through auspicious of UGC,
made operational in 2000. It too has an Internet connectivity, where
surfing for desired information can be done.
Gymkhana Facilities
For physical development, recreation and leisure time of students,
the University has provided indoor facilities such as:
English, Hindi and Marathi Newspapers.
A color TV set.
Carom Board and Chess Board.
Table Tennis.
Dumbbells.
Double Bar.
Skipping ropes etc. in Gymkhana and Hostels.
Outdoor sports facilities such as volley ball, basket ball, badminton
and cricket are provided on modest sized playground. Mountaineering, trekking
and bird watching are available at student's
initiative.
Fellowship to Meritorious Students
Government of Maharashtra offers 12 fellowships, each of Rs. 1,000/-
to 6 male and 6 female meritorious students of M.Sc classes and
6 fellowships to research scholars undertaking Ph.D. work. To commemorate
decade of University establishment, a provision of Rs. 2.0 lakhs
for scholarships is made. Similarly, research fellowships through
funds saved after organizing Annual Conference of Indian Council
of Chemists, 1999 are also planned.
Summer Training
Most Schools/Departments arrange for 4-6 weeks Summer Training for
the students to inculcate in them industrial culture necessary for
meaningful employment.
Career Counseling and Placement Services
At the end of 4th Semester, several Schools/Departments arrange
Campus Interviews as a part of extended duties towards students.
This activity has started in the last 2 years and provided placement
to around 10 % students.
Thus, an integrated program of students progression is implemented
through the above curricular, co-curricular, value
of SHRAMADAN creating, counseling and placement activities.
Hostel Facility
North Maharashtra University provides good hostel facility for non localite Male/Female students. We have build 2 Boys Hostels and 2 Girls Hostels. Both the Hostels are equipped with necessary facilities to make the stay of students comfortable.

Both Girls and Boys are provided hostel accommodation on merit
and in proportion to students strength in different academic programs
offered on the campus. There are two boys hostels. The old hostel
has a capacity of 142 with 40 single seated rooms and 34 triple
seated rooms and new hostel has capacity of 197 with single seated rooms and triple seated rooms. Similarly, the girls hostel has
a capacity of 136 with 40 single seated and 32 triple seated rooms.
The single occupancy rooms are reserved for research students and fellows, while the triple occupancy rooms
are provided to post-graduate students. The admission to the hostel
is purely on merit basis. Both the hostels have independent rectors
from the resident senior faculty.
The hostel students are provided with hot water for bathing throughout the year.
The boys and girls hostels have independent mess which
is run by contract personnels to ensure the quality of food
at reasonable rates. The hostels are well equipped with all basic
facilities. The hostels are well ventilated, aerated and furnished
with tables, chairs, fans, fluorescent light, water cooler and solar
hot water facility. Each hostel has a common hall for recreation
and mess for boarding, run by an authorized contractor.
At present total capacity of each of the hostel is inadequate to
meet the demand . Extension work of boys' hostel building is
in progress to meet the demand. However, the completion of the extension
building for boys' hostel will take at least one year. The demand
had been long anticipated in view of the number of new courses started
by the NMU in the recent past.
